Proper nouns are the opposite of common nouns. Proper nouns represent the names of specific person, place,
or thing
. These the names of days of the week, months, institutions, organizations, religion and so on. The first letter of all
proper nouns must be written with a capital letter. In each of the following sentences, the proper nouns are underlined.

  • The workshop is on Monday.
  • Benedict has just finished installing the Adobe Photoshop Elements software.
  • The English Language Support Programme focuses on helping students learn in English.
  • There are Malay, Chinese, and Indian students staying at the residential college.
