PRELIMINARY SECTIONS

  • TITLE PAGE

The Title Page should be brief and focused. Include the date, your name and the name of the person of whom the report is intended (e.g. your lecturer, tutor). Sometimes you also need to include information such as the name or the code of the programme you have enrolled in (e.g. SPL, SSA, SGU), the year of study, and student identification (matric card) number.

  • ABSTRACT

This section presents a concise summary of your report. It normally includes the statement of problem investigated, methods adopted or adapted, the findings and conclusion. The audience should be able to get a rough idea about your report by reading the abstract.

  • ACKNOWLEDGEMENT

This section includes your statements of appreciation towards those who contributed towards the completion of your report.

  • TABLE OF CONTENTS

This section contains headings and subheadings. Make sure that the page numbers indicated tally with the headings and subheadings. This sections helps in providing the audience with an idea of the scope of the essay.

  • LIST OF FIGURES AND TABLES

List down the titles of figures and tables with the page numbers.

  • LIST OF ABBREVIATIONS AND SYMBOLS

If your report contains abbreviations and symbols, you should indicate the meanings of abbreviation and symbols in this section.
